Change the oil every 10hrs, filters and valve clearances every 20 and air filter when ever dirty. I did that exact maintainance on the 400, so im not complaining. Link to comment
The shop told me to change the oil every 300 miles and I just did my first 300 mile oil change. However, the oil came out pretty, clear and red just like the fresh oil I was about to replace it with. The shop also said if I was on the street most of the time that I could change the screens and filters every other oil change but to clean the
If you want something that will last (and has all the little bugs worked out), look at the Kawasaki KLR 650. Pretty much indestructible. If it's not aggressive enough for you, consider the Honda XR650L - also reliable as a pile of bricks. If that's not elite enough, a BMW F700GS (or 650) should do the trick.
2016 350 xcfw here. Never had valves adjusted, never opened the engine and was running great at 319 hours. Only clean air filters and oil changes. Plenty of over-extended oil change intervals have occurred as well. I swear, I could have put another 100 hours on it before my top-end.
Not sure whether it is good or bad, but I just had my top end done on my KTM 2015 XCF-W at 300 hours. I pretty much only ride single track and most of it is pretty tight so I don't spend a lot of time up in high rev's. I did it at 300 hours as a preventative measure. 300 hours omg! My 350 SX-F is at 39.00 from factory and the valves are perfect.

This can be a result of an oil consumption problem, a fuel system issue, or an ignition issue. Solutions include ensuring the right quality and quantity of oil is used, servicing the fuel system, or checking and adjusting the ignition timing. 2. Electrical problems. The 450 EXC carries KTM's time-tested electrical engineering in motorcycles.
Its 80% trail 20% road bike. A versys or african twin or vstrom or some other ADV bike is perfect for what you are looking for. Those are great pavement bikes that never need maintenance. The 450 needs about 4 times as much maintenance as the 250 or any of the 650 dualsport or adventure bikes.

700 hours at 25-hour intervals is 28 oil changes, or 56 qts. 90 - 56 = 34 quarts = 8.5 gallons of oil. call it $20/gallon (Rotella T6, $21-ish if you catch it on sale at walmart, usually $25-28/gal), that's $170 worth of oil that you really didn't need to change.
